About Pocklington Allotments Site
The allotment site is located along The Mile, Pocklington. Founded in 1936 when the Pocklington Parish Council (Now Town Council) bought the land for use as allotments, today they are still going strong with 200 rentable allotments.
The site comprises of differing plots which are rentable annually. Plots are divided into full plots (c: 448 sqm) half plots (c:224 sq m and quarter plots c: 112 sq m); rent is proportional to the size of the plot. When renting a plot, tenants are asked to agree an annual contract with Pocklington Allotment Association (PAA) which is the Tenancy Agreement. The land is owned by Pocklington Town Council, and is rented to the Association on a long-term basis. The allotments are run by a committee, and members of the committee are elected annually at the AGM, except for the Secretary and Treasurer who have a 3 year tenure. The committee meets on the last Tuesday of every month at The Old Courtroom, George Street, Pocklington, except for November (when we hold the annual AGM); members may attend any of these meetings and redacted minutes of the meetings are posted on our website.
The site is split into two halves with separate entrances secured by a lockable gate, and each side has its own driveway called side 1 (nearest town), and side 2 (furthest from town). On side 2 is the tenant’s WC. There are water taps placed at regular intervals along each drive. There is vehicular access to plots although parking spaces are limited. We have a notice board at each entrance which we use to promote events, meetings or display important notices.
There are a number of social events through the year, with events such as summer BBQs, an annual flower & vegetable show and best plot competitions.
